How the Global Burden of Mental Disorders Came to Light

Dr. Harvey Whiteford is Professor of Psychiatry and Population Mental Health at the University of Queensland, Australia and Professor of Global Health at the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation, University of Washington, Seattle. He trained in medicine, psychiatry and public health at the University of Queensland, the Australian National University and Stanford University. 

Dr. Whiteford and his team in Queensland are largely responsible for illuminating the global burden of mental/neurological disorders through their repeated epidemiological analyses and high-level publications of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) data.  

Dr. Whiteford's expertise is in psychiatric epidemiology, burden of disease modeling and mental health service development. He has held senior clinical and administrative positions at the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank, OECD, and governments in Europe, Africa and Asia and Australia.
