Educational technology is the use of technology to improve teaching and learning. The use of modern technologies to enhance learning should never get in the way of teaching and learning, but should be used effectively and appropriately to improve the teaching and learning environment. Technology can be used to promote active learning, facilitate course evaluations, teach through simulation, enhance presentations, provide deeper exploration of content, connect faculty and learners across locations, and promote student collaboration.

During the session, participants will:

Discuss typical challenges facing educators and specific instructional media tools and strategies to address these challenges
Examine ways that technology can be used to promote active learning
Explore different types of instructional methods using technology and discuss how each might be used to teach in different settings.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

Describe how technology can enhance teaching and learning and address teaching challenges
Describe instructional media and technology resources available at UCSF
Apply technology tools to improve your own teaching and learning.

UCSF is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
