 Medicine Residency\nUCSF School of Medicine\n\nProfessionalism is a requir
 ed competency for medical trainees. However\, faculty may need a framework
  for thinking about the components of professionalism\, tools to identify 
 learners with challenges in this area\, and strategies to help these learn
 ers succeed. In this workshop\, we discuss the components of professionali
 sm that we expect in medical trainees\, as well as a framework for underst
 anding and describing professionalism problems that we may encounter with 
 our learners. Participants will practice an approach to identifying and as
 sessing the struggling learner\, share ideas for dealing with professional
 ism problems\, and leave with a practical list of tips and references.\n\n
 During this workshop\, participants will:\n\nGenerate and discuss definiti
 ons of medical professionalism\, and categories of unprofessional behavior
 \nLearn an adaptation of the SOAP model for identifying\, approaching and 
 assessing learners with professionalism challenges\nPractice these skills 
 in a breakout session\, using realistic educational scenarios.\nDiscuss av
 ailable techniques\, tools and resources for helping a learner struggling 
 with professionalism.\n\nAt the conclusion of this workshop\, participants
  will be able to:\n\nRecognize categories of professionalism challenges in
  learners.\nApply the SOAP model to help further understand and assist lea
 rners in difficulty.\nDemonstrate strategies for communicating about profe
 ssionalism concerns with a learner.\nDevelop an initial approach to addres
 sing professionalism issues in trainees.\n\nUCSF is accredited by the Accr
 editation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing m
 edical education for physicians.\n\nUCSF designates this live activity for
  a maximum of 277 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim o
 nly the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the 
 activity.\n\nThe above credit is inclusive of all UCSF Educational Skills 
 Workshops and the Teaching Scholars Program. Credit available for this eve
 nt only is 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.\n\nFor the purpose of recertif
 ication\, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Categor
 y 1 Credit™ issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME.\n\nThe Cali
 fornia Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing professional education thos
 e courses that meet the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and hav
