The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is FEMA /Citizen Corps. sponsored program that is designed to help communities prepare for effective disaster response through training and planning. With training and infromation, UCSF staff, faculty, and students can be prepared to serve as a crucial resource capable of performing many of the emergency functions needed in the immediate post-disaster period. CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact UCSF and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers can assist others at UCSF and in their own community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT volunteers are also encouraged to support the UCSF Emergenency Preparedness Program by taking an active role in emergency preparedness projects. NOTE: You must attend all 3 days to become certified.
