Join UCSF alumni and community members in person* for a dynamic discussion to celebrate Juneteenth as well as the 50th anniversary of UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland’s Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center.

Established in 1973, the Sickle Cell Center has become the largest and most comprehensive program for individuals with sickle cell disease and their families in the western United States. Over the past 50 years, the center has been at the forefront of research into better treatments and potential cures while actively working towards health equity in collaboration with community organizations, including the Black Panther Party.

Marsha J. Treadwell, PhD, co-director of the UCSF Sickle Cell Center of Excellence, will be joined by a distinguished panel of community and clinical leaders who will discuss the spirit of social justice and equity at the heart of the center’s long history as highlighted in the “Revolutionary Care: An Oakland Story” podcast.

*UCSF Around the Bay is a series of local events offering engaging programs and opportunities to connect with other alumni and campus leaders; visit specialevents.ucsf.edu/covid-19-policy to learn about UCSF’s in-person event guidelines. UCSF is also committed to making its facilities, activities, and events accessible.
