With a national focus on the US Supreme Court’s ruling on affirmative action, UC Health will hold a grand rounds virtual session featuring keynote speaker Erwin Chemerinsky, J.D., dean and Jesse H. Choper distinguished professor of UC Berkeley School of Law. Dean Chemerinsky will provide an update on the legal landscape and his perspectives on affirmative action, which has been prohibited in the state of California since 1996 when Proposition 209 was passed.

Despite restrictions, UC Davis has one of the nation’s most diverse medical schools, ranked after Howard University, a historically Black university, and Florida International University, a Hispanic-serving research university. UC Davis School of Medicine’s Mark Henderson, M.D., vice chair for education and associate dean for admissions, and Tonya Fancher, M.D., MPH, associate dean for workforce innovation and education quality improvement, will present about the programs and practices at the school.

The systemwide grand rounds series is hosted by University of California Health and designed to provide education on topics of interest for medical and other health care professionals. Regardless of hospital or school affiliation, physicians can receive continuing medical education credit for the session, and professionals in other health care fields can request transferable credit from their credentialling boards. The sessions are free of charge and are open to all UC students, faculty and staff.
