Please join us as we celebrate the career of Dr. Lowell Tong and wish him the best in retirement during an in-person gathering held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 2:00-3:30 p.m., in the Pritzker Building .

We are looking forward to honoring Dr. Tong’s distinguished career and many contributions to the department, university, and professional organizations. He is currently the department's executive vice chair and co-lead on the Pritzker Building project. These roles cap his more than three decades of service to UCSF, including roles as interim department chair (2011–2013) and vice chair for education. He has held UCSF-wide leadership roles, including the multi-year comprehensive transformation of medical student education launched in 1999, as director of clerkships and core courses, head of the UCSF/CPMC Brown & Toland Medical Group's mental health group and psychiatry services including its Psychiatry Care Clinic, and chair of the chancellor's committee on gay, lesbian, and bisexual issues. He also served as chief of psychiatry at UCSF/Mt. Zion, director of the SFVAMC psychiatry consultation-liaison service, and SFGH Psychiatry Service senior resident.

Dr. Tong was an inaugural member of the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators, held the department's endowed chair for medical student education for two terms, and has received numerous awards and recognition from his peers, including the department's George Sarlo Prize for Excellence in Teaching, UCSF Academy of Medical Educators Outstanding Service Award, the Association for Academic Psychiatry Educator Award, and Association for Academic Psychiatry Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also served on many U.S. Medical Licensing Exam bodies and led faculty development and trainee assessment initiatives at Kuwait University Faculty of Medicine and Nara Medical University (Japan).

To accommodate for varying schedules, this will be a drop-in event. Appetizers and refreshments will be provided.

Hope to see you there!
