 what?‌‌‌‌Kevin Shannon\, M.D. is the Auerback Distinguished Professor of Mo
 lecular Oncology and an American Cancer Society Research Professor in the D
 epartment of Pediatrics. He was Director of the UCSF Medical Scientist Trai
 ning Program (MSTP) from 2006-2012 and led UCSF Physician Scientist Scholar
  Program from its inception in 2013 until 2024. He was Interim Chair of the
  Department of Pediatrics from 2009-10 and 2017-19 and is currently Vice Ch
 air for Laboratory Research. \n\n‌His current research focuses on normal an
 d leukemic hematopoiesis with an emphasis on genetic mechanisms underlying 
 leukemia development\, aberrant Ras signaling\, moue cancer modeling\, mole
 cular therapeutics\, and drug resistance \n\n‌‌‌‌He has mentored for medica
 l students\, graduate students\, post-doctoral scholars\, and junior facult
 y members throughout his career including 4 UCSF medical students who recei
 ved the annual Dean’s Research Prize lab and 7 trainees in his lab who rece
 ived “K” series awards from the National Institutes of Health. Many of thes
 e individuals have gone on to successful research careers in academia and i
 ndustry
