A Tale of Two Sexes: The Neural Dynamics of Dimorphic Behavior

Eviatar Yemini, PhD
Assistant Professor, Department of Neurobiology
University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School

The Kavli Institute, in collaboration with the Innovation Core at the Weill Institute for Neurosciences, invite you to join a special lecture in a series that explores topics at the frontier of innovative technology and neuroscience research. This talk will feature Eviatar Yemini, PhD and address the question: How is the nervous system of each sex reprogrammed to add dimorphic behaviors at sexual maturity? To answer this, Dr. Yemini’s lab compared dynamic, whole-brain activity between both sexes of C. elegans worms using a novel method called NeuroPAL (Yemini et al, Cell 2021), with results illuminating conserved neurobehavioral circuit mechanisms and genetic pathways in brain development that establish sexual maturity.
