UCSF Office of Opportunity and Outreach’s Bridging Differences: Difficult Dialogues Speaker Series will feature Dr. Julia Minson for an introductory session on May 12th from 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. This series creates space for meaningful engagement across difference, strengthening our ability to navigate challenging conversations with curiosity, respect, and intention.

Dr. Minson will present “Introduction for How to Disagree Better,” offering research-based insights into how people engage across disagreement and how communication strategies can either escalate or de-escalate conflict. This session will explore practical approaches to improving dialogue, particularly in high-stakes or emotionally charged settings common in academic, clinical, and professional environments.

Dr. Minson is an Associate Professor at Harvard Kennedy School, where her research focuses on the psychology of disagreement. Her work examines how people perceive and respond to opposing views, and how communication strategies can foster more productive, respectful conversations.

As a part of her presentation, the Office of Opportunity and Outreach has procured a limited number of free copies of Dr. Minson's new book, "How to Disagree Better," to gift attendees. These books will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
