To help stem the regional blood shortage, the UCSF School of Nursing and the Associated Students of the School of Nursing (ASSN) are organizing a May 19 blood drive with the American Red Cross.
FAQs, provided by the American Red Cross:
Q. Should donors wear a face mask or face covering at a blood drive?
A: Yes, donors will be required to wear face coverings at a blood drive or donation center. Donors are encouraged to bring their own face covering. If a donor does not have one, the American Red Cross will provide one.
Q. Can donors wear homemade masks or face coverings, such as cloth masks and bandanas?
A. Yes, as long as the mask covers both the nose and mouth.
Q. What if a donor doesn’t want to wear a mask or has a medical condition that makes it difficult to wear a mask?
A. To ensure the safety of the community, if a donor does not want to wear a face covering or is not able to, the American Red Cross asks they postpone their donation to a later date when such coverings are no longer recommended for members of the public.
