 eeting with Carrie Byington to Friday\, July 31\, from 1pm - 2:30pm.  \n\n
 Please join us for an update on the accomplishments of the council followe
 d by a presentation from Dr. Carrie Byington.\n\nDr. Carrie L. Byington st
 arted as executive vice president and head of UC Health on October 31\, 20
 19. She\, is an academic physician-scientist who has had continuous grant 
 support as principal or coinvestigator totaling approximately $80 million 
 since 1998. Dr. Byington's research spans the translational spectrum and h
 as focused primarily on bacterial and viral respiratory pathogens in child
 ren. She is board certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious
  Diseases.\n\nDr. Byington's career accomplishments include awards from th
 e Robert Wood Johnson Foundation\, the American Academy of Pediatrics\, th
 e Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\, the National Institutes of 
 Health and Drexel University College of Medicine’s Institute for Women
 ’s Health and Leadership. She is an elected member of the National Acade
 my of Medicine and National Academy of Inventors. She was the Chair of the
  Infectious Diseases Advisory Group for the US Olympic Committee\, respons
 ible for protecting Team USA athletes and staff from Zika Virus during the
  2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.\n\nDr. Byington joined UC Health after hold
 ing significant leadership roles at Texas A&M University System and the Un
 iversity of Utah. At Texas A&M\, she concurrently served as vice chancello
 r for health services for the system\, senior vice president of the Texas 
 A&M University Health Science Center\, the Jean and Thomas McMullin distin
 guished professor and dean of the Texas A&M College of Medicine.\n\nPrior 
 to joining Texas A&M\, Byington spent more than 20 years in teaching and l
 eadership positions with the University of Utah\, including serving as ass
 ociate vice president\, faculty and academic affairs\, with the University
  of Utah Health Sciences Center\, and principal investigator for the Utah 
 Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences. She received her Bachelor 
 of Science in biology from Texas A&M University and Doctor of Medicine fro
 m Baylor College of Medicine\, both with honors. She trained in pediatrics
  at Texas Children's Hospital and in pediatric infectious diseases at UCSF
