University of California San Francisco Give to UCSF

Please join Chancellor Sam Hawgood in conversation with special guest U.S. Senator Alex Padilla on Wednesday, October 6, from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m. via Zoom. Chancellor Hawgood will discuss Senator Padilla’s recent tenure as the first Latino to serve California in the U.S. Senate, his leadership during his longstanding service to California and throughout the pandemic, policy implications of health and other disparities magnified by COVID-19, how to promote diversity in STEM and science policy advocacy during this pivotal period in American history.

About U.S. Senator Alex Padilla
Senator Padilla is a STEM graduate, served in the California State Senate where he was named one of Sacramento’s “most effective legislators,” and was elected as California’s first Latino Secretary of State where he worked to make our elections more accessible and inclusive. Appointed by Governor Newsom following Vice President Harris’ inauguration, Senator Padilla serves as Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Safety. He has been a national leader on immigration, climate change, and confronting the challenges posed by the public health crisis working directly with UCSF and other top academic medical centers. He continues to fight for sound public health policy and support the essential needs of the American people and our health care infrastructure.
