PRISM (Program for Resistance, Immunology, Surveillance and Modeling of Malaria) is a multi-project research collaboration between UCSF and Makerere University in Uganda, and a program of the International Center of Excellence for Malaria Research. SmartNet is a novel approach to objectively measure ITN adherence over time. SmartNet uses conductive thread interwoven into an Insecticide-treated bednet and a microcontroller to detect the state of the net.

Paul Krezanoski is the inventor of SmartNet, and an Assistant Professor in pediatrics at UCSF. Since 2003 he has focused on malaria prevention and the use of innovative technologies and research techniques to improve health in sub-Saharan Africa.  He is also the Founding Director of Opportunity Solutions International, a non-profit organization which runs microfinance and innnovative health projects in Madagascar and Swaziland.

Join the UCSF malaria research group in welcoming Dr Krezanoski.
