James, PhD, RN, PNP, is a postdoctoral fellow in the National Clinician Scholars Program at UCLA.
Her research focuses on the physical and mental well-being of Black mothers and birthing people. She uses a health equity lens and the Reproductive Justice Framework to assess the ways that clinical practice and public policy can be “retrofitted, reformed, and reimagined” to meet the reproductive health needs of Black women and birthing people, while also considering the influence that structural racism and culture have on their health and ability to receive quality care.
James recently completed an international maternal health policy elective in London and Birmingham, England under Jenny Douglas. James is the Associate Editor of Nursing for Women’s Health, a journal of the Association for Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nursing.
