In the Netherlands, a culture shift is happening by giving more importance to teaching expertise in academic careers. Educational achievement and innovations can contribute as much to advancement within academia as a focus on research productivity. However, this shift is hindered by a lack of consensus on what teacher expertise is and how we can measure it. In this lecture, Dr. van der Schaaf will discuss how studies on teacher expertise are contributing to this culture shift. She will discuss how EPAs for teacher certification in HPE can be relevant. In addition, Dr. van der Schaaf will discuss how the development of academic teachers’ adaptive expertise is vital to their ability to take agency and to stay flexible in innovations.
