The Center for Faculty Educators presents this Medical Education Grand Rounds on How Examining Social Identities in Health Professions Education Improves Collaboration presented by Naike Bochatay Simpson, PhD.

Naike Bochatay Simpson is a sociologist specializing in health professions education. She earned her PhD from the University of Geneva in Switzerland in 2018, and went on to complete a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship at UCSF. Afterward, Naike was Head of Operations at Karger Publishers in Switzerland, where she oversaw publication of 100 journals and 10 books per year in health sciences. She has recently returned to the Bay Area.

In this presentation, Naike will examine how social identities impact collaboration in healthcare teams. She will focus on how social identities can lead to conflicts and power imbalances and explore strategies to mitigate these challenges.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

Describe the role of social identities in shaping interactions among healthcare professionals.
Analyze how social identities contribute to power imbalances within healthcare teams.
Apply educational strategies to leverage social identities and improve interprofessional collaboration.
