DESCRIPTION:Watch The Untold Journey of Women in Science.\n\nRemarkable wom
en at UCSF are pushing the boundaries of knowledge. They have achieved gre
at successes and\, at times\, faced challenging odds to become the role mo
dels they are today.\n\nLearn from their experiences and be part of the di
scussion!\n\nOn behalf of the UCSF Broad Stem Cell Center\, we invite all
members of UCSF to join in attending a film screening of Picture a Scienti
st — a documentary in which leading women scientists discuss the inequal
ities they've faced as they set out to create a new formula to make STEM o
pen to all.\n\nWe will host a panel discussion featuring four female scien
tists who will share their perspectives and personal journies as women in
STEM. We will hear from the UCSF Broad Stem Cell Center's Elizabeth Crouch
 \, MD\, PhD\; Susan Fisher\, PhD\; Tippi MacKenzie\, MD\; and Carolyn Sang
okoya\, MD\, PhD\, as part of a panel discussion following the movie scree
ning moderated by Akos Herzeg\, MD\, PhD. This will also be a potential op
portunity for an in-person space for reflection and dialogue of the movie
and its themes. We hope you can join us!\n\nPicture a Scientist — Women
make up less than a quarter of STEM professionals in the United States\, a
nd numbers are even lower for women of color. But there is a growing group
of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists\, expos
ing longstanding discrimination and leading the way in making science more
  inclusive. A biologist\, a chemist\, and a geologist lead viewers on a jo
urney through their own experiences in the sciences\, ranging from outrigh
t harassment to years of subtle slights. Along the way\, from cramped labo
ratories to spectacular field stations\, scientific visionaries\, includin
 g social scientists\, neuroscientists\, and psychologists\, provide new pe
rspectives on how to make science itself more diverse\, equitable\, and op
 en to all.
