Maria T. Chao, DrPH, MPA, will present "Integrative Health Equity: Paradox and Promise." 

Maria T. Chao, DrPH, MPA, is an associate professor at the University of California San Francisco and Associate Director for Health Equity and Diversity at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. Dr. Chao’s overarching goal is to investigate how complementary and integrative health approaches can advance health equity by improving chronic disease management and quality of life among underserved populations. Her current program of research: (1) rigorously tests integrative approaches to address the under-treatment of pain in diverse patient populations; and (2) applies implementation science frameworks to broaden access to evidence-based integrative medicine. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Summarize racial/ethnic and socioeconomic differences in use of complementary and integrative medicine and reasons for use.
  • Describe current integrative medicine research and clinical efforts to advance health equity.
  • Analyze gaps and opportunities in integrative medicine efforts to advance health equity.
