This event aims to honor and continue the work of Dr. Frank Staggers, Sr. -- to eliminate health disparities for racial/ethnic minorities, poor and underserved residents in Alameda County, statewide and at the national level.

Hear from medical and research experts in prostate cancer. Understand the journey from first-hand accounts by survivors, families, and partners of those who faced prostate cancer.

    About prostate cancer & the disparities in survival for African American men 
  • Engage Community 
    To promote early detection of prostate cancer & improve survival in Alameda County 
  • Support Friends of Frank (FoF) 
    Funds will support development of the Friends of Frank Community Advocacy Training Program

Dr. Frank Staggers, Sr. (1926-2013) was a urologist and visionary leader in Alameda County and across the Bay Area. He was the founding chair of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Community Advisory Board (HDFCCC CAB) and founding director of the Ethnic Health Institute, now at Samuel Merritt University. Dr. Staggers, Sr. worked tirelessly to eliminate health disparities for racial/ethnic minorities, poor and underserved residents in Alameda County, statewide and at the national level. The symposium will enshrine Dr. Staggers’ legacy and efforts to promote health equity and community advocacy in the Bay Area.
