Presenter bios:

Despina Kotis, PharmD, FASHP

Dr. Desi Kotis is Chief Pharmacy Executive for UCSF Health System and Associate Dean for UCSF School of Pharmacy.

Dr. Kotis received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Illinois, where she also received her Doctorate of Pharmacy. She completed a pharmacy residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Kotis was appointed fellow of ASHP in 2013 and received the President’s award from the Illinois Council Health System Pharmacists in 2015.  She was also the recipient of the 2017 Pharmacist of the Year Award from Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists.  Dr. Kotis is also serves as Vice Chair of the Illinois State Board of Pharmacy.

Dr. Kotis is a strategic academic medical center leader in hospital pharmacy management. She has been integral in expanding the role of the pharmacist and pharmacy technician into a comprehensive patient centered model in line with the ASHP PAI. She is Vice Chair of the Vizient Academic Medical Center Pharmacy Network.

 

Stefano M. Bertozzi, MD, PhD

Dr. Stefano M. Bertozzi is dean emeritus and professor of health policy and management at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health.  Previously, he directed the HIV and tuberculosis programs at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He worked at the Mexican National Institute of Public Health as director of its Center for Evaluation Research and Surveys.  He was the last director of the WHO Global Programme on AIDS and has also held positions with UNAIDS, the World Bank and the government of the DRC.

Dr. Bertozzi is currently co-chair of the Health Working Group for the UC – Mexico Initiative.  He recently co-edited the Disease Control Priorities (DCP3) volume on HIV/AIDS, Malaria & Tuberculosis. He has served on governance and advisory boards for WHO, UNAIDS, the Global Fund, PEPFAR, the NIH, Duke University, the University of Washington, HopeLab, the East Bay Community Foundation, and the AMA. He has advised NGOs and ministries of health and social welfare in Asia, Africa and Latin America. He is a member of the US National Academy of Medicine. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a PhD in health policy and management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned his medical degree at UC San Diego, and trained in internal medicine at UC San Francisco.

Training experience: PI for World Bank training program on strategic planning for HIV/AIDS; PI for Latin American and Caribbean certificate program on HIV/AIDS/STI; faculty in World Bank training program on impact evaluation; direct report responsibility for all UC Berkeley SPH on-line education programs and executive education programs; development of international training exchange programs; indirect responsibility for management of all UC Berkeley SPH educational programs
