University of California San Francisco Give to UCSF

This event is open to UCSF employees and students with a registered UCSF email.

Description: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), about 48 million (14%) of Americans report some degree of hearing loss. In this webinar, we will learn from the UCSF Chief Accessibility Inclusion Officer and managers from UCSF Patient Relations and Interpreting and Translation Services as they discuss healthcare access for D/deaf and hard of hearing patients and companions. Presenters will provide an overview of common barriers experienced by D/deaf and hard of hearing patients in healthcare and offer guidance around the policies for providing effective communication, such as sign language interpretation, real-time captioning (CART), assistive listening devices, or other auxiliary aids or services. Managers are strongly encouraged to advise their teams who work with patients attend this training.

Accessibility: To request a reasonable accommodation, please contact Cecile Puretz by emailing Cecile.Puretz@ucsf.edu or 415.806.7391.
