“Essential Breastfeeding Assessment and Support Skills”

Planners expect learners to:
1. Recognize common clinician and/or patient/family biases in breastfeeding and the impact on disparities in maternal/infant health.
2. Identify 6 essential assessment questions to determine adequacy of breastfeeding and appropriate infant feeding plan.
3. Explain to parents/caregivers the importance of infant feeding cues as well as “on-demand” infant feeding to establish milk supply and adequate nutritional intake.
