About this Event
Fadel Zeidan, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at UC San Diego, directing the Pain Health and Mindfulness Laboratory and serving as the inaugural Endowed Professor at the Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion. He is also Co-Founder and Director of Neuroscience at the UC San Diego Center for Psychedelic Research. His research explores how psychedelics, cannabis, and meditation alleviate suffering and promote empathy and compassion. Funded by the NIH, he conducts placebo-controlled trials on mindfulness and chronic pain, and investigates natural products like psilocybin, DMT, and cannabis. His team first discovered psilocybin’s dramatic impact on chronic pain, trauma, depression, and well-being. He mentors over 20 trainees and has been featured in media outlets (CNN, NPR, Time, CBS), given a TEDx talk, and presented to the Dalai Lama. He received the 2014 NIH Mitchell Max Award.
