DESCRIPTION:Dr. Erik L. Jennings Simões is a neurosurgeon who works deep in
  the Amazon rainforest. He was the founder of the first public service of n
 eurosurgery in the interior of the Brazilian Amazon. For over 18 years\, ha
 s been operated on patients with specific neurological diseases contracted 
 in the forest\, such as intracranial hematoma caused by snake bite\, head t
 rauma by falling hedgehog nuts and accidents involving encounters with tree
 s and wildlife. Along with frequent visits to the interior\, he was appoint
 ed health coordinator of the Zoé people\, an indigenous\, recently contacte
 d tribe of the Amazon rain forest. Dr. Simões' lecture will focus on person
 al experiences in the rainforest as well as the ethical\, cultural\, logist
 ical and other aspects of providing health care to recently-contacted popul
