Join us for an afternoon reception in Gallery 190 on Thursday, April 9 to celebrate the exhibition Nancy Richards Farese: ADD|MIX|FOLD. Functioning as a visual memoir, the work looks back on the artist’s childhood in the American South during the 1960s, re-examining the culture and assumptions of segregation, female identity, and place. Photographs are cut, sewn, and reassembled using thread, fabric, beads, and buttons, creating tactile, one-of-a-kind works that reflect how memory and history continue to shape the present. ADD|MIX|FOLD draws on traditional women’s crafts and offers a tactile, human counterpoint to the increasingly digital nature of contemporary life.

This event is free and open to the public.

Remarks by Dr. Bruce Miller, Director of the Fein Memory and Aging Center, and the artist Nancy Richards Farese will take place at 5:00 p.m.

Nancy Richards Farese is an award-winning documentary photographer, published author, and social entrepreneur dedicated to advancing visual storytelling for social impact. As the founder of PhotoPhilanthropy (2009) and CatchLight (2015), she champions the role of photography and media in shaping civil society, often capturing underrepresented communities and humanitarian challenges around the world in her work.
