Shock Teams: The Jaws of Life for Cardiogenic Shock

Session moderated by Bob Wachter

To rescue patients with complex heart disease from the brink of worsening cardiogenic shock, “shock teams,” comprised of a multidisciplinary group of specialists, can be invaluable. Christopher Barnett, MD, MPH, professor in the Division of Cardiology, chief of the Section of Critical Care Cardiology and medical director of the CICU and Inpatient Cardiology at UCSF Health, along with Connor O’Brien, MD, assistant professor in the Division of Cardiology at UCSF Health, will explain the differences in cardiogenic shock care pathways and which patient populations can benefit most from early intervention.

Speakers:
Christopher Barnett, MD, MPH is a professor in the Division of Cardiology, chief of Critical Care Cardiology, and medical director of the CICU and Inpatient Cardiology, all at UCSF Health. He specializes in cardiology and critical care medicine and studies disease processes that occur in patients with complex heart disease in the intensive care unit, such as cardiogenic shock.

Connor O’Brien, MD is an assistant professor in the Division of Cardiology at UCSF Health. He has expertise in echocardiography and critical care medicine, focusing on adults with severe cardiac dysfunction or systemic shock who need prompt treatment in intensive care. He also cares for patients during the transition from intensive care to outpatient cardiac care.

Grand Rounds will be Zoom-only through the end of 2022. We will consider returning to a hybrid format in 2023. Watch live using the link below or at your convenience on our YouTube channel.
