State of the UCSF Department of Medicine

Presented by Bob Wachter

In this yearly DOM update, Bob Wachter will review the department’s educational, clinical, and research programs and performance over the past couple of years. This particular update will focus mostly on the UCSF Health component of the department, although it should be of interest to our entire DOM community. Bob will highlight some of the emerging challenges — such as burnout, hybrid work, and a tight UCSF Health budget — and opportunities, such as in DEI and digital transformation.

Speaker:
Robert Wachter, MD is Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at UCSF, a position he has held since 2016. He is also the Holly Smith Professor of Science and Medicine and the Benioff Endowed Chair in Hospital Medicine. His honors include selection as the most influential physician in the United States (Modern Healthcare Magazine, 2015), the John M.
