Hollander Rounds: Clinical Problem Solving with Rabih Geha and Reza Manesh
Session moderated by Bob Wachter

In our Hollander (Clinical Problem Solving) Rounds, we observe how master clinicians reason through challenging cases. While getting the diagnosis “right” is impressive, the learning comes from witnessing how experts navigate the zigs and zags of a diagnostic journey in a case that unfurls in real-time (as it does in life, of course).

For this Hollander Rounds, our discussants will be UCSF’s Rabih Geha and UCLA’s Reza Manesh. Both were residents at UCSF (under Harry Hollander) and are co-founders of Clinical Problem Solvers, a popular medical education initiative that disseminates and democratizes the science of diagnostic reasoning. Key teaching points based on the case, prepared by Parnassus Chief Resident Karena Puldon, MD, will follow the discussion.

Speakers
Rabih Geha, MD, is an associate professor in the Division of Emergency Services and the director of education of the ED at the SFVAHCS, overseeing emergency medicine, internal medicine, and psychiatry residents. Geha is a co-founder of the Clinical Problem Solvers, a multimodal medical education venture run by a global team that hosts a weekly podcast, a daily live virtual morning report, and other medical education content.

Reza Manesh, MD, is an associate professor at UCLA School of Medicine, the director of Didactic Teaching at the Greater Los Angeles VA Medical Center, and fellow co-founder of Clinical Problem Solvers. Manesh is the recipient of the UCSF Jeffrey Weingarten Award and the Osler Housestaff Faculty Teaching Award for his first faculty position at Johns Hopkins University. He also authored Finding Joy in Medicine, a memoir highlighting his formula for joy in medicine.
