Healing together: Lessons learned from educational leadership during disruption

The COVID-19 pandemic created widespread disruptions in clinical care and education. As the pandemic receded, educational leaders sought to rebuild institutional culture and regain the trust of trainees. In this Grand Rounds, we will explore the drivers of trainee mistrust and learn concrete strategies and educational leadership lessons borne from this unique era in our nation’s history.

Speakers:
Rebecca Berman, MD, is the program director of UCSF's Internal Medicine Residency. Prior to coming to UCSF, she served as director of Brigham & Women’s Primary Care Residency. In Boston, Berman built a network of student-faculty primary care practices, the Crimson Care Collaborative (CCC), at Mass General Hospital. She is also the founder of the Association of Program Directors of Internal Medicine's Primary Care Program Director Interest Group and a council member for APDIM. Berman was recently named the Kanu Chatterjee Medicine Residency Endowed Chair.

Vanja Douglas, MD, is the director of the Neurohospitalist Division in the Department of Neurology, as well as the program director of UCSF’s Adult Neurology Residency. Douglas has won several teaching awards including the Henry J. Kaiser Award for Excellence in Teaching.
 
Katherine Julian, MD, is a professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and associate dean for Graduate Medical Education in the School of Medicine. She previously served as program director for the UCSF Primary Care General Internal Medicine Residency.
