Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing: Updates on A Cutting-Edge Diagnostic Tool
As we enter 2026, join us for a discussion of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS), the innovation that is revolutionizing how we diagnose and manage infectious and inflammatory diseases. When standard tests fall short, mNGS provides a novel approach to solving diagnostic mysteries. This Grand Rounds will define mNGS and how it fits into clinical practice and public health outbreak surveillance.
Speakers:
Chaz Langelier, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Medicine in the UCSF Division of Infectious Diseases and Assistant Medical Director of Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Prevention at UCSF Health. Dr. Langelier is an international leader in the application of microbial genomics and host immunoprofiling to understand infectious and inflammatory diseases.
Natasha Spottiswoode, MD, DPhil, is Assistant Professor in the UCSF Health Division of Infectious Diseases. Her research sits at the intersection of infectious diseases and critical care, with a focus on advancing and implementing molecular diagnostics and risk stratification approaches based on metagenomic sequencing.
