Department of Medicine Grand Rounds
Eat Your Ice Cream: Re-Examining Wellness in Medicine

Wellness is everywhere in medicine—but what does it actually mean, and are we getting it right? This Medical Grand Rounds will clarify what true wellness looks like when it is sustainable, enjoyable, and integrated into daily life. The talk will examine how medicine has historically undervalued wellness, contributing to gaps in chronic disease care, and will outline six core behaviors essential to health and wellbeing.

Speaker:
Ezekiel J. Emanuel, MD, PhD, is Vice Provost for Global Initiatives, Co-Director of the Healthcare Transformation Institute, and the Diane v.S. Levy and Robert M. Levy Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, with appointments at the Perelman School of Medicine and Wharton School. An oncologist and internationally recognized leader in health policy and bioethics, Dr. Emanuel has advised the World Health Organization, helped draft the Affordable Care Act, and served on the Biden–Harris COVID Advisory Board. He is the most widely cited bioethicist in history, with more than 350 publications and 16 books, including Eat Your Ice Cream: Six Simple Rules for a Long and Healthy Life.
