Part of the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC) K12 Program's Career Development and Leadership Seminar Series that includes career development and leadership topics to help physician-scientists advance their careers. It's a 2-year curriculum with topics repeating every other year

  • Gurpreet Dhaliwal, MD, UCSF Professor of Clinical Medicine, Site Director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship at SF VA Medical Center
  • Sue Yom, MD/PhD, UCSF Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the basic principles underlying appointment (series and rank) and advancement (merit and promotion) at UCSF
  • Review the criteria for advancement, components of the advancement packet, strategies for success, and pitfalls to avoid
  • Understand the review and evaluation process (and why it takes so long)
  • Discuss strategies for navigating a change in series, accelerated action, or disagreement regarding your advancement (series, timing of promotion, etc.)
