David Teitel, MD: Promoting Cardiac Care in Resource-Limited Countries

Dr. David Teitel has been a member of the UCSF faculty since 1982, after completing a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at this institution. He was the chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology for over two decades and medical director of the UCSF Pediatric Heart Center from its inception through 2015. His research focuses on heart and circulatory function in the fetus, newborn and child with congenital heart disease. He studied at  University of Toronto and McGill University, before joining UCSF in 1980 as a fellow.

He has shared his expertise in pediatric cardiology through an NGO named Heart-to-Heart for over 25 years, developing pediatric cardiac programs in Tomsk, Rostov, Chelyabinsk & Moscow, and Lima, Peru in. At UNICAR, the pediatric heart center in Guatemala City, he works to train & supervise research projects with pediatrics cardiology fellows & residents.
