Photodynamic therapy: shining a light on efficacy and recent advancements in PDT

Objectives:
1. Understand the fundamental principles of photodynamic therapy, including the mechanisms of photosensitization and light activation
2. Identify and differentiate between various sensitizing medications and light sources utilized in photodynamic therapy
3. Review expanded indications for photodynamic therapy beyond traditional dermatological applications including neoplastic,
inflammatory, and cosmetic conditions
Surgical Perspectives on Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Evaluating Procedural Indications, Techniques, and Outcomes
Fiatsogbe Dzuali, MD, PGY-4 Resident, Department of Dermatology, UCSF
Objectives:
1. Understanding the Indications for Surgical Intervention in Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Gain insight into the clinical criteria and patient
factors that necessitate surgical management, including the stages and lesions of HS that benefit most from surgical intervention, and
the decision-making approach to referrals for procedural management.
2. Exploring Procedural Techniques and Their Outcomes in Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Become familiar with various procedural
management options for HS. Discuss the success rates, patient experiences, and potential complications associated with these
methods to better inform patient referrals and manage expectations.
