About this Event
Speaker: Michael Oldham, PhD, Associate Professor, Neurological Surgery
Talk title: “How should we identify optimal marker genes?”
About the Speaker:
Dr. Oldham is a neuroscientist and Associate Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery and Brain Tumor Center at UCSF. His lab uses novel computational and experimental strategies to study the molecular basis of cellular identity in the human brain. Because gene expression lies at the root of cellular identity, much of his lab's work focuses on understanding the organization of the human brain transcriptome. To this end, the Oldham lab generates and analyzes vast quantities of gene expression data from human brain samples and uses custom computational pipelines to identify and compare patterns of gene activity across many independent datasets. Lab members are particularly interested in understanding how patterns of gene activity in normal human brain samples are perturbed by disease, with an emphasis on adult malignant gliomas.
