University of California San Francisco Give to UCSF

UCSF Healthcare Advocates for Social Justice invite you to join us on Thursday, May 23rd at 12PM for a discussion called “Bridging the Gap on Addiction.” The talk will feature psychotherapist, researcher, and person in recovery, Dr. Garland Gerber.

Garland holds a PhD from UC San Diego, School of Medicine and San Diego State University, School of Social Work. She specializes in research on substance use. She has an MA in Clinical Psychology with a training emphasis in providing psychotherapy and specializations in addictive disorders and psychological trauma. Garland also has a Certification in Alcohol and Drug Counseling (CADC-II) through the state of California. She works within the community providing Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and mental health awareness education to clinicians, law enforcement, families, and students. Her research has focused on SUD and mental health related stigma, primarily within the criminal legal system.

You can register for the talk here and learn more about Garland here. This lecture is free to attend but donations to Health Injustice are strongly encouraged.

This event was planned by a diverse group of UCSF staff who organized in response to the ongoing racial injustices. The goal of the UCSF Healthcare Advocates for Social Justice monthly speaker series is to promote critical thinking and action around intersectional structures of power, privilege, and racial oppression in clinical care, education, and beyond. We will continue to highlight the efforts of community antiracism activists.
