Christy Boscardin, PhD and Susannah Cornes, MD
This workshop is for faculty who work with any type of learners across the health professions education continuum. The goal of the workshop is to teach faculty about Assessment for Learning, and how they, their learners and their programs can benefit by applying the principles and strategies to their own assessment practice. Assessments designed with assessment for learning principles in mind provide insights into where learners are developmentally, enable targeted and effective teaching, and encourage development of reflective, critical thinking skills.
During this workshop, participants will:
Review the definition and principles of Assessment for Learning
Review assessment tools that can foster Assessment for Learning
Practice their skills of working with assessment tools for effective implementation of Assessment for Learning
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Describe the learning principles behind Assessment for Learning
Define the three phases of assessment and how Assessment for Learning can be applied to each
Apply Assessment for Learning tools to clarify where the learner is and move them forward
