Many people suffer from anemia but may not know about it. One of the very common types of anemia in Asians is called thalassemia. Nearly ¾ of all people afflicted with thalassemia are Southeastern Asians or South Asians. The Northern California Comprehensive Thalassemia Center at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland is the largest thalassemia program in the United States with a major impact on the care of thalassemia both nationally and internationally. Many people, including some clinicians, are not aware of this serious hidden disease in Asians. Dr. Ashutosh Lal will share his expertise with us in this free and bilingual (English/Cantonese) lecture. All are welcome.
