Academy Fall Meeting with Presidential Chair Camara Phyllis Jones, MD, MPH, PhD

How is Racism Operating Here? Using a case study of a faculty hire for a leadership position in a department at UCSF. The meeting will combine lecture and breakout discussions to reflect on the case scenario using several allegories and values targets for anti-racism action developed by Dr. Jones.

Objectives:

Recognize the impacts our current structures, norms, policies, and values have on our collective decision making ​
Identify how the myth of meritocracy, having an a-historical perspective and focusing on the individual over structure, impact our collective decision making ​
Identify/Develop one strategy/process to implement and/or to recommend within your Dept/Division/Unit that facilitates anti-racism, anti-oppressive hiring processes ​
