Session Overview
This session, part of the Library’s AI in Your Toolkit series, introduces AI writing tools available to the UCSF community. The workshop is designed for students, staff, and faculty who want to use AI to strengthen their writing and receive targeted feedback on grammar, clarity, organization, and alignment with guidelines and policies. We will focus on writing commonly produced in academic and administrative contexts, including emails, grant proposals, manuscripts, and project reports.
The session will begin with an overview of relevant policies, as well as journal and funder guidance on AI-assisted writing. We will then demonstrate practical prompting strategies for obtaining constructive feedback on draft text. The workshop includes hands-on activities using ChatGPT Enterprise, accessible through UCSF institutional licensing.
We recommend that participants sign up for a ChatGPT Enterprise account before the workshop, although this is not required. Participants are also encouraged to bring an in-progress writing sample to use during the hands-on activities.
Learning Objectives
Describe journal and funder policies on use and disclosure of AI
Evaluate whether disclosure is needed for specific examples of AI-assisted writing
Design chatbot prompts for revising and getting feedback on writing drafts
