University of California San Francisco Give to UCSF

In this webinar, sociologist and UCSF Assistant Professor Stacy Torres, PhD, will examine how elders strive to maintain their independence and age in place, remaining in their communities despite urban challenges. Drawing from her new book, At Home in the City: Growing Old in Urban America, which chronicles her ethnographic study of longtime New York City residents, Dr. Torres will highlight the elders’ resilience and resourcefulness amid health setbacks, gentrification, financial strain, and social losses. Dr. Torres will also explore how we can all strengthen our social infrastructure, support our neighborhood gathering places, and make a home in the city, whatever our age. This webinar's attendees will be entered in a drawing to win one of five copies of At Home in the City: Growing Old in Urban America.
