About this Event
Free EventOn Thursday, October 10, 2019, the Center for Faculty Educators offers this intensive day of workshops for participants to accelerate progress toward completion of a Teach for UCSF Certificate in Simulation Teaching, or complete an entire mini-certificate in one day. Read more about Teach for UCSF Certificates.
CME credit is available for certain health professions.
This all-day workshop is an integration of the core workshops that are required for the Teach for UCSF Certificate in Simulation Teaching:
Part 1, Using Simulation in Medical Education: Why, What and How
Part 2, Using Simulation in Medical Education: Conducting and Debriefing
During this workshop, participants will learn about the learning theory behind simulation in health professional education, and how to apply this theory to prepare and conduct effective simulation-based teaching. Following an introduction on learning theory and the characteristics of effective simulation, participants will work in small groups to create their own simulation scenarios using Kernâs 6-step model for curriculum development in medical education. Participants will then explore strategies to effectively conduct simulation sessions and facilitate debriefing. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to practice these strategies in small group exercises.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Explain the rationale for using simulation in health professional education
List best practices for the use of simulation as an educational strategy
Create learning goals and objectives for your simulation curriculum and sessions
Design a simulation scenario with appropriate learning objectives for your learners
Develop skills to effectively conduct simulation scenarios and facilitate debriefing
