DESCRIPTION:The Intensive Family Treatment for Eating Disorders (ED-IFT) is
designed for families who do not have access to specialty eating disorder
s treatment in their local community\, whose affected child is not progres
sing well in treatment\, who are stepping down from a higher level of care
\, or who would benefit from more intensive outpatient treatment. This pro
gram provides adolescents and their families with an immersive and intensi
ve dose of treatment that is specifically designed to bring about rapid sy
mptom change by providing families with a deeper understanding of eating d
isorders\, teaching practical skills to navigate various phases throughout
the recovery process\, and equipping adolescents and their families with
more effective coping strategies. All family members are strongly encourag
ed to attend as each family member plays a critical role in supporting the
adolescent’s recovery.\n\nThis five-day intensive program runs from Mon
day to Friday and involves approximately 40 hours of intensive treatment f
or adolescents with eating disorders and their families. ED-IFT is conduct
ed in a multi-family format with up to 6 families participating at a time.
The multifamily treatment format fosters family-to-family support\, learn
ing\, and a decreased sense of isolation that is not possible in tradition
al family therapy. Families who would benefit from additional treatment ma
y also work with our team following ED-IFT.\n\nPlease contact our ED-IFT P
rogram Coordinator\, Sam Kushner at (415) 514-1074\, who can guide you thr
 ough the enrollment process.
