Recommended prerequisite: 3D Printing at UCSF Parts I and II

Do you have a CT scan that you would like to convert to a 3D print? Are you interested in advanced 3D printing, such as stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing?

Join Makers Lab staff for the last of a three part pop-up series for a hands-on demonstration on how to create 3D printable models from CT scans. Note: this pop-up will focus on converting and 3D printing models of bone.

After attending the 60-minute pop-up you will be to:

  • Segment bone in a CT scan using a free medical image viewer
  • Create a 3D surface rendering from a CT scan
  • Remove artifacts from 3D model generated from a CT scan
  • Prepare model for print on the Form 2 3D printer

We encourage participants to bring their own laptops and DICOM information to work on during the pop-up. Attendees can download the Horos and Meshmixer software prior to the pop-up, available for free for the Mac platform. PC users are welcome to attend, but the software used for the demonstration is only available for Macs.

Don't have access to DICOM files? Visit the 3D Printing in Medicine blog or the DICOM Library to download example CT scans to use at the pop-up. Come see how 3D printing is helping improve medical education and patient care and how a large majority of this work can be done right inside the UCSF Parnassus Library.

Have questions about the Makers Lab? Visit the Makers Lab website or email us at makerslab@ucsf.edu with questions. This pop-up is open to the UCSF community.
