Intergenerational Trauma and Resilience

Learning objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Examine the phenomenology of intergenerational trauma effects
  • Explore biological mechanisms of transmission associated with biological and epigenetic findings in second generation trauma survivors
  • Compare and contrast findings from animal and human studies, highlighting their ability to provide mechanistic information underlying intergenerational trauma
  • Examine potential individual and societal implications and treatment approaches

About the speaker:
Rachel Yehuda, PhD, is an endowed professor of psychiatry and neuroscience of trauma.  She is also director of mental gealth at the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Yehuda is a recognized leader in the field of traumatic stress studies, PTSD, and intergenerational trauma.  In 2019, Dr. Yehuda was elected to the National Academy of Medicine for her seminal contributions to understanding the psychological and biological impact of traumatic stress.  In 2020, Dr. Yehuda established and now directs the Parsons Research Center for Psychedelic Healing.
