University of California San Francisco Give to UCSF

Free Event

Workshop Description

In complex clinical environments, much of learning occurs informally e.g., during patient care, handovers, and interprofessional collaboration. However, these learning opportunities often remain implicit and underutilized. This interactive workshop focuses on how learners and supervisors can more deliberately recognize, use, and create learning moments in everyday clinical practice. Drawing on established faculty development approaches, participants will work with practical frameworks to optimize workplace-based learning and develop strategies that can be applied across professions and training levels.

Please note: You must have a UCSF MyAccess account to register for this event.

Learning objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize learning opportunities embedded in everyday clinical practice
  • Apply practical frameworks to intentionally create and optimize learning moments (e.g., structuring learning interactions and using targeted questioning strategies)
  • Use effective questioning techniques to stimulate learning
  • Develop a shared understanding of workplace-based learning within their teams
