Learning objectives:
By the end of this presentation, learners will be able to:

  • Manage biphasic depression (i.e., post-manic depression) differently from spontaneous depression in bipolar disorder
  • Utilize lithium and divalproex effectively for the prevention of manic episodes and thereby decrease depressive episodes
  • Communicate more comfortably with patients about decreasing usage of antidepressants in bipolar depression
  • Prepare early episode management plans for each of their patients
