Distinguished Visiting Lecturer Series Presentation:
Regulating Gene Expression During Long-Lasting Synaptic Plasticity and Memory

Speaker:
Kelsey C. Martin, MD, PhD
Dean, David Geffen School of Medicine
Professor of Biological Chemistry
Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
UCLA

----------

Learning objectives:
At the end of this presentation, learners will:

  • Understand molecular mechanisms by which experience changes connectivity between neurons in the brain to store long-term memories
  • Understand the relevance of cell biological studies of gene regulation to brain plasticity and will gain an appreciation of the way in which molecular cell biological studies can provide insights into brain function and neuropsychiatric disease
  • Understand how both transcriptional and post-transcriptional gene expression contribute to long-lasting brain plasticity
