• Recognize and identify "pathological identification" when it occurs in the pathological behavior or patients in parenting, couples, and children
• Differentiate pathological identification from compliance according to Joseph Weiss
• Craft a therapeutic strategy to help patients stop identifying with pathological parents–that is, step out of repeating patterns of pathological behaviors
